60% of Businesses worldwide are increasing their Digital Marketing Spend

As Seth Godin has exposed, the TV-Industrial complex is dead. There was once a time where you paid for broad exposure to customers, Billboards, TV, Print Ads, Radio, in hopes that some percentage of that audience would be interested it what you have. It was a world of interruption. And it worked. The people with the media controlled the flow of information. They had a monopoly on traffic.

The internet and the advent of Pull based marketing changed all that. Since consumers are free to avoid, disable and ignore advertising… Push based interruptions are no longer effective. Customers have the power to choose what they see and when. If your ad is in the wrong place or in front of the wrong customer, they simply will not listen.

According to a recent report by ExactTarget, marketers all over the world are responding by leaning more on digital marketing in order to increase revenues. The top three goals for reporting companies were to increase conversion rates (47%) increasing brand awareness (46%) and to begin collecting, measuring and using consumer behavior in their campaigns (27%). The reason for the shift, then, is a new focus on data and accountability in their marketing, something the older methods of marketing aren’t capable of.

Using this technology, businesses are able to spend more wisely and see increased Return on their marketing dollars. The responders, mostly businesses with 10-99 Employees, reported that Engagement and Revenue have moved to the front of the priorities list for 2014. This is ahead of generating new subscribers, the previous goal found in IBM’s 2013 study. This shift means that being able to see real-time data will give you an even stronger advantage.

Digital is experiencing massive growth at the moment, with nearly 1,000 related startups launched in the last few years. The makes for a challenging landscape, but one that promises great rewards for those who dare to master the terrain.

That’s all from me… Til next time,
